This fold-up nativity is made from wheat straw.
The process involves the cutting and flattening of wheat straw. Then it is scraped with a knife to make it even. Then the wheat straw is glued to paper which is cut into the needed shapes. Heat is applied in varying degrees to bring about the range of tones from light tan to dark brown or black. Details are created by using thin strips of straw. The cardboard base is covered with cloth to complete the item. Nothing but simple tools are used to create this nativity: a flat board, a pot of glue, a sharp blade and a pair of scissors.
